Tuesday November 27th 2018: Episode 17

From the 'Way out of our league' department: NASA reports that Insight has landed on Mars.

Insight stands for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport.

The lander took 7 months to reach its destination on a 300 million mile trip from Earth.

Insight will take two years to study the interior of Mars so that scientists may learn more about 'how all celestial bodies with rocky surfaces, including Earth and the Moon, formed.'

We at Nerd's Drink Whiskey can't pretend to understand it all, but we are in awe at the data gathered, analysed, and used by NASA to make our lives better.

If this is what you use our tax dollars for, shut up and take my money! Go NASA!

Tom Baker to release a Doctor Who novel.

The book will be based on a Doctor Who script that he helped write.

The original script was written with co-star Ian Marter while Baker was playing his role as the 4th Doctor.

The name of the book will be Doctor Who: Scratchman.

The story is said to cover the time of the 4th Doctor, so old school fans of the long running series should be thrilled at the news.

The book will be released on January 24th of 2019.

Screenwriter Terry Rossio is in serious hot water after using a racial slur on his Twitter account.

Although mostly known for being a writer on Aladdin, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Shrek, he also has writing credits on the upcoming (and controversial right out of the gate) Jonny Quest.

In a response on Twitter the writer compared being called an anti-vaxer to being called the 'n-word.'

Rossio is against vaccinating children, but it's the comparison that is causing the backlash.

Disney has fired Guardians Of The Galaxy writer and director James Gunn, celebrated novelist Chuck Wendig, and others very recently for less controversial things said on the same social network.

Disney has yet to announce if they will respond to the use of this racial slur with the same level of authority.

More importantly, no word on if Warner Brothers will still trust Terry Rossio to handle the character Hadji with the racial sensitivity necessary in the recently announced Jonny Quest reboot.

So the full title of the Birds Of Prey movie has been announced, and it's a bit long.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

This might remind everyone that there was once talk of a Harley Quinn stand alone movie.

It does seem that the focus will still be everyone’s favorite female villain.

Now go read all 199 issues of the comic before the movie is released on February 7th 2020.

Avengers 4 Trailer Released Friday

The rumors are getting even louder that the first trailer for Avengers 4 will be released this Friday.

This would line up with the release of Ralph Breaks The Internet.

Which conflicts with our story a week ago that predicted that the trailer might be first seen before Mary Poppins.

However, sources continue to say that the title will be Avengers 4: Annihilation.

Feel free to type either 'LEGIT' or 'FAKE NEWS' in the comments to let us know if you agree with these current predictions.

Warner Brothers Streaming Service Announced

We all know about the upcoming Disney streaming service, most of us know about the DC streaming service, but now we also will have the Warner Bros streaming service.

Now of course this will create an overlap with the DC streaming service, since DC is a Warner Bros property.

But it will also include every HBO original series, the Harry Potter franchise, Hanna-Barbera cartoons, and so much more.

How many of these stand alone services can we handle asking for $10 until we start begging for package deals?

And wouldn't that put us right back to where we are now with cable companies raking us over the proverbial coals?

So much for cord cutting eh?

Warner Brothers have confirmed that they are in fact going to move forward with the live action version of the classic Jonny Quest cartoon.

The director Chris McKay is most known for his work on The LEGO Batman Movie.

Many have brought up the challenges of rebooting the Hanna-Barbera cartoon created by Doug Wildey in the mid-1960s.

The character Hadji does not transfer well to modern times, but we are sure that talented enough writers can turn this to a positive, right?

Marvel comics legend and icon Stan lee has passed.

Full story later today.

Please post your thoughts on his passing in the comments.

Thanks to our friends at DEAD: for helping confirm this tragic news.

Although we reported of the tragic passing of Marvel comics legend and icon Stan lee just hours ago, we thought that a full tribute was required in this situation.

Stan Lee joined Timely Comics the same year it started in 1939.

Although shocking to think about now, he started at the company as a gopher boy and assistant.

In 1941, at 19 years old, Stan Lee was made into interim editor.

He had a major part in the creation of characters as legendary as Spider-Man, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Black Panther, the X-Men, Ant-Man, Iron Man, and Thor.

But his first superhero co-creation was the Destroyer, in Mystic Comics #6 in August of 1941.

This legend was also a Veteran. He joined the United States Army in early 1942.

He joked that his military classification was "playwright."

He returned after his World War II military service in 1945.

In the 1950's Lee ended up writing romance, Westerns, humor, science fiction, medieval adventure, horror and suspense.

He became so tired of this that he almost quit entirely, but then publisher Martin Goodman assigned Lee to come up with a new superhero team.

His wife thankfully encouraged him to be selfish and stick to the stories that excited him since he was about to quit anyways and had nothing to lose.

It was when he started giving his superheroes a flawed humanity that everything changed and Marvel was truly born.

In 1961 Timely Comics evolved into Marvel where Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and Jack Kirby made the company what it is today.

Thankfully he lived to see his creations evolve into a multi-billion dollar movie franchise that will be enjoyed by fans for decades to come.

His cameos in these movies help cement his legacy and ensure he will inspire many creators for years to come.

On July 6th of 2017, his wife, anchor, defender, and support system sadly passed away.

From that day to the day he left us, his life came apart, and many say he was never really happy after that.

Today we celebrate all the joy he gave to so many, will continue to give to generations to come, and hope that he is with Joan in the afterlife, and smiling once again.

We will all miss you greatly Stan Lee. Thank you for all you gave to us.

I think the most proper thing we can reply with in the comments is the only word that can describe the man.

So in the comments let's all respond with simply "Excelsior!"
